How Ozone works....
Ozone (O3) has a very short life span and during this time it is very reactive. The oxidation potential of ozone is 2.07. This ranks third in nature as the highest oxidant behind fluorine and hydroxyl-radicals. The higher the oxidation potential leads to more powerful the oxidizing allowing it to break down the intended compounds. The third oxygen atom is not tied very tightly to the other two atoms in an ozone molecule. The third molecule breaks away, leaving pure oxygen (O2), and a single oxygen molecule (O1). This single molecule will combine with bacteria, fungi, spores, mold and other compounds in a process called oxidation. When this free oxygen molecule combines with the organisms it causes the cell-wall of the organism to "burn up" allowing the living material to be oxidized or destroyed. What is left behind is oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Ozone and Water....
Ozone is 12.5 times more soluble in water than oxygen. This allows ozone to dissolve into water at more than 500 ppm and can saturate the water with dissolved oxygen following degradation. There are numerous applications for ozone dissolved in water. Aquariums, pools, spas, bottling plants, food plants, drinking water, reverse osmosis water, wastewater, cooling towers and more. Reverse Osmosis water is just one of Ecologix' many successful applications. Ozone sanitizes and maintains the purity of the process. A Florida sun screen manufacturer uses ozone technology to manufacture their product. The water is ultra pure and when the final product is sent to market it is free from bacteria. The ozone insures the system and water are bacteria free. Ozone is 50 times more powerful and over 3000 times faster acting than chlorine bleach. For this reason, ozone is used at beverage and food processing plants throughout the world. Ozone insures that the quality of the water is meeting the strict guidelines of each processing plant. Because ozone can be produced onsite and on demand, the effect is reduced chemical cost, storage, handling and added plant safety.

Our Technology....

Materials of construction - Auminum/Ceramic Cell. Stainless steel contains ferric chromate and can result in contamination of the process. The Plasma Block™ cell does not allow this to occur since there is no stainless steel and therefore no chance of contamination.

  • PDM Control (Pulse Density Modulating) - The desire to precisely control the ozone output has always been an issue. The micro channel™ cell and power supply is designed to throttle the ozone output like a VFD varies the speed of a motor. Ozone is produced on a linear curve down to 1%.
  • Operating Hertz - 23,000 Hertz - You will hear of other cell designs operating at medium or high frequencies. This is generally 400 to 2000 hertz. At this frequency the generators produce a noise which can be very annoying. The Plasma Block™ operating at 23,000 hertz is silent.
  • Efficiencies - Air Cooled Design - The Plasma Block™ Technology basic design is efficient enough to allow the removal of heat through just air cooling. This is a tremendous savings in energy and maintenance since the use of a chiller is not required. A dual plasma block machine for 3.2 lbs/day or 60.66 grams/hour with oxygen system included uses the same power as a microwave oven, 120 volts, 1500 watts.
  • High Voltage - Contianment is the key - Other cell designs have very high voltage (18,000 volts) and exposed inside the enclosure along with low voltage (120 or 230 volts). This can be dangerous and has caused serious flashovers which has resulted in a fire. The Plasma Block™ is only operating around 3200 volts and the good news, it's totally contained with no exposure to lower voltages. Flashover is not possible with the Plasma Block™ cell design.

PLC Architecture - Our Ozone Systems include the proper software for the Plasma Block™ to operate with the correct configuration depending on the exact requirements of each application. This includes but is not limited to exact ozone output constrol through OPR or DOM, ambient ozone monitoring, interlocked to pumps valves or other equipment. Remote monitoring is available through the customer's Ethernet and if required the internet.

Maintenance - Cell designs using glass dielectrics are of particular concern since these tend to be very temperamental requiring great care in the disassembly, cleaning process and reassembly of the unit. Cell failures can lead to the entire unit shutting down until a highly trained technician can troubleshoot the problem. The Plasma Block™ will eliminate all of these concerns. Our cell is maintenance free. The cell will not self destruct if water finds its way into the reactor chamber. The electronics are design to withstand any water entrainment. The only required maintenance is on the filters of the air prep system. The Plasma Block™ has built in safety features which simply shuts the unit down. After the cells are purged the unit can be started up with confidence. No other cell design can make these claims. Should there actually be a cell failure, the time required to remove and replace a cell is about 15 minutes. The achitecture allows for the unit to continue to procuce ozone through any of the remaining cells.

Oxygen Feed Gas - The Plasma Block™ is designed to operate on oxygen. Systems using dry air will develop nitric acid which will build up in the cell causing a reduction in ozone output or cell failure. Using oxygen creates the perfect environment for the plasma block cell operation. High ozone cocentrations and effeiciencies with inlet feed gas due points equal to minus 100°F are achieved. Many ozone systems will run on air or oxygen. For peak operation performance and service, only cells using oxygen feed gas have proven over time to be the most reliable. The Plasma Block™ continues to be the best cell design ever conceived. This design is truly changing everything about the use of ozone, ozone generation and the related applications.

No System Warm-Up Required - Unlike older systems which may be running continuously to an ozone destruct unit, the Plasma Block™ design can startup and shut down instantly. With the oxygen system in standby mode, the generators are always ready to perform at peak efficiencies. All high voltage is safely contained completely within the plasma block. This eliminates shock hazards and dirt build up which can cause dangerous flash over.

Instant Ozone Whdn Needed - Due to the micro gap design, high concentration ozone is always ready to operate at peak performance. Should the system require 100% ozone, the Plasma Block™ architecture will start the plasma on demand and shut down the plasma as the system dectates.

Variable Ozone Output Option - Should there be a requirement for varying the ozone output, our design can allow for a linear turn down to 1%. This is very unique in the industry and allows the operator to keep a very precise control on the systems oranic loading requirements.

No Glass Tubes - Glass tubes in older systems require special handling and care and are expensive to replace. Operating at high voltages and lower frequency they require a specific warm up period and tend to be somewhat temperamental. Ask anyone who is using this older technology about the maintenance aspect of tube replacemnt and upkeep.

No Wet Air Problems - Wet air is a problem with any ozone generating system. To insure that the Plasma Block™ design is always ready to perform at full potential, only oxygen supply systems are incorporated into our design. Because of this, the dry oxygen feed gas enters the plasma chamber and eliminates the potential for creating nitric acid buildup in the cell.

Easy Maintenance & Low Cost - The Plasma Block™ cells are maintenance free. Our design allows for easy access to the hardware for immediate replacement of all components. Items are stocked and readily available. Should the plasma block cells need replacement or refurbishment, they are easily removed in a matter of minutes. With our oxygen feed system, replacement of the plasma block should not be a requirement. Cells can last for 10 years.

Huge Energy Savings - Micro Channel™ design results in high concentration ozone at 23,000 hertz/3200 volts. Precision machined aluminum block eliminates inefficient hot spots. Only a 2 psi drop with 10 LMP flow. Maximum cell pressure is over 100 psi. As with any cell the most predictable performance occurs with positive pressure domain. Running at full load the cell only uses 250 watts for an air cooled unit. A Plasma Block system with two Plasma Block™ cells and oxygen system will use about the same power as a microwave oven. (~150 watts @ 120 volts). This should produce over 3 pounds or 1365 grams of ozone per day making it the most efficient system on the market. When you calculate the instant on/off feature the energy saving is tremendous. Water cooled cells are also available and supply ozone amounts up to three times more.
