DAF Systems / P-Series (welded polypropylene) DAF Systems

The performance of a Dissolved Air Flotation System depends primarily on the ratio of the pounds of air to the pounds of solids required to achieve a given degree of clarification. The P-Series DAF Systems are constructed from welded polypropylene. The P-Series design incorporates a V-bottom unlike traditional flat bottom DAF systems. The V-bottom design includes a screw augur for removal of sediment. The P-Series offers a low maintenance, automatic, affordable solution for liquid / solid separation.

P-Series Polypropylene DAF Systems....

The P-Series represents the first polypropylene constructed high performance Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system ever. The system provides flexibility, durability, and performance while assuring affordability.

The design incorporates all of the latest advances in liquid/solids separation technology and provides unique corrugated flow baffling, air saturation, chemical flocculation, and sludge removal. The flow system is particularly notable as it assures the most rapid flotation while minimizing hydraulic resistance to settling.

Since adequate mixing is so vital to performance, a state of the art flocculation system is standard on every DAF system that we manufacture. Automation can vary from an economical manual system to complete touch screen and PLC control.

All systems are skid mounted, pre-plumbed, and pre-wired. A wide variety of options allows us to customize the system to meet the customers performance and automation requirements. Ancillary equipment includes polymer feed systems, sludge tanks, sludge dewatering systems, feed and discharge pumps and additional process control instrumentation. Pilot plants are available.

Technical Design Principles....Stoke's Law, Reynolds Number and Brownian Motion provide the foundation for liquid / solid separation......

A particle separates faster as

  • The velocity of water decreases
  • The particle size increases
  • The density difference between liquid/solid increases
  • The concentration of solids decreases

The particle in the waste stream must be able to travel from the bottom to the top of the DAF within the retention time in the unit.

Vt = Rise Rate (ft./min.)
....= Depth (ft.) / Retention Time

The hydraulic loading rate must not exceed the the particle rise rate for separation to occur.

Vu = Hydraulic Loading (Underflow) Rate
.....= gpm/ft2 = ft3/ft2 = ft/min

Traditional DAF systems are manufactured from Steel, Stainless Steel or Concrete. We have developed a means to construct the RESOURCE DAF from welded POLYPROPYLENE....

  • Cost Advantage (20% - 40%) Polypropylene is less expensive than any type of steel. It is also safer to work with.
  • Treatment Flexibility - Polypropylene can tolerate a much wider pH range than any traditional materials. This broadens the treatment techniques significantly improving efficiencies and reducing operational costs.
  • Longevity - Polypropylene will outlast even stainless steel in most applications

Traditional DAF systems do not consider bottom sediment removal or have engineered a V-Bottom with a screw augur for removal of the sediment. A flat bottom creates heavy maintenance and down-time requirements. A screw augur must have bearings to support it which will be subject to sand and grit. Again, the net result is heavy maintenance and down-time requirements. We have designed a cone bottom system which allows online removal of sand and grit automatically. A timer function activates an automatic valve to provide this removal. The auto valve is installed with manual isolation valves and cleanouts to ease maintenance and prevent down-time requirements. The result is a low maintenance, automatic, money saving design.
